Guide to Troubled Birds gets me through everything. It is the bee's knees, the cat's pajamas, the best thing since sliced bread. It keeps me going when the going has gone on a vacation and decided to leave me stranded.I actually use this book as a judgment of peoples character and if they're compatible with my slightly deranged (who am I kidding, fully deranged) sense of humor and sense of self. It is my way to pick out the ones that I can really let go with. See who can handle it. One could say that I'm a tad bit obsessed with birds.I quote this damn book so much that it's obscene. It doesn't help that I work at RISD's nature lab and interact with taxidermy birds all the time. Those birds have so much personality now. And there may or may not be over 100 of them. I don't get out much. It's okay. At least I have my feathered friends.And the art is glorious - Mincing Mockingbird captures their deranged personalities so wonderfully. Those delicate birds with even more delicate psyches (but lets be real here, owls are anything but delicate. They feast on fear for fun)But PHEW. THIS BOOK IS A GIFT TO ALL HUMANITY. DON'T EVEN HESITATE. JUMP ON IT. BUY THIS BEAUTIFUL TOME AND WELCOME IT INTO YOUR LIVES.
I bought this book thinking it would be a funny read. Over-exaggeration of how crazy birds can be, nothing wrong with that. Upon completion, I decided this would be a good bathroom book for visitors to peruse whilst planted upon that porcelain throne. Oh was I wrong. I would never wish my fate upon any of my friends, an enemy maybe, but no one I remotely tolerate.Since reading the book, I have become a target of the local birds. They follow me through the parking lot, in the courtyard, even when I'm miles away from home. Swooping over-head, they let out a call. To others it seems to be the normal chirps of birds, but I know what they're really saying. "Caw-caw motherf#@ker!" The white-tailed bird waled as it swooped down upon my head, "Caw-caw."It is no longer safe to go outside. I am a prisoner in my own apartment. Even the once beautiful bluejay is after me.Ignorance is bliss my friends.
It's cute, but if I hadn't had a gift card to use on this I probably wouldn't have been happy with the purchase. I love the pictures of the birds with the phrases ie. "I'd sell you to Satan for one corn chip." They're hilarious. But I suppose I wanted more than what I'd already seen online, and I wasn't too keen on the writing which fills the pages instead. Not to mention it was rather short on content to begin with... Ah well. It's a decent enough one to keep on the shelf anyway.
I bought this for a bird-loving friend after seeing screenshots of this book online, and I can sincerely say that this is one of the best purchases I've ever made in my entire sad existence. I don't even like birds and I want this book for myself now.
Straight-up disturbing. I absolutely, positively would not let the author anywhere near my children, pets, grandparents, valuable possessions, food stores, or bird feeder.What does this mean? I couldn't possibly endorse it more heartily!!!!! :)Seriously weird stuff - but great entertainment. Especially if you're into freaking out your relatives during a holiday Christmas party.
This book is hilarious, it never fails to crack me up (especially on days where I'm feeling down). I have a particular fondness for the bird who has trouble with math. This is definitely a must-have for any bookshelf, although I wouldn't recommend letting anyone offended by swearwords to take a look inside.
